Female disc jocks and artistes will be taking the forefront at Happy Thurzdayz, starting next week, in what has been dubbed 'Girls Rush'. According to one of the promoters of the event, Halipos, he decided to put the women in the spotlight so that they can get more exposure. "We decided to have an all-female line-up because we realise that even though some of the females are as talented as their male counterparts and in some cases even more talented, they are still not given the opportunity to shine and showcase their talent," he told THE STAR, noting that 'Girls Rush' will be held every last Thursday in each month. "Hapilos International's aim is to bring something fresh and new to the party scene in Jamaica, to have people party with a difference. On any given night there is at least five or six different parties being held in the Corporate Area alone, so things tend to get a little repetitive. That's what we are aiming to break with Guinness Happy Thurzdayz; an all-female line-up of selectors. No one else does that or have that. We are very proud to offer that and we think it will be a game changer." Promoting female talent Johnny Wonder, who is also one of the promoters, said the event will showcase both local and international female talent. "Not only will it be showcasing all the local Jamaican female selectors and artistes, but we will be bringing international female selectors and artistes to Happy Thurzdayz also. Our first international female selector will be showcased the last thursday in November, the 25th," he said of the event that is held at Mango Ranch, 16 1/2 West Kings House Road, St Andrew. Meanwhile, Halipos said the event will only propel the women to take their rightful place in the male-dominated industry. "This means that the ladies involved can come out and show that 'hey we got this' and use it as a platform to launch out and kick in some doors so more opportunity like this will be forthcoming and we will see more ladies like Sparks and Elektra getting a lot more work in the industry," he told THE STAR. |
