G.C. Foster stun Utech

LAST year's beaten finalist G.C. Foster College senior netball team were in a rampant mood on Thursday, in the opening round of the Inter-Collegiate senior netball competition, as they demolished defending champions, the University of Technology (Utech) 61-10.

Playing at home, the title holders, who won the title by one point over their rivals last season, were stunned early as the C Lloyd Walker-coached team raced to an impressive 18-1 first quarter lead. The game was held up for some thirty minutes due to heavy rain, but the break did not slow down the Spanish Town-based team, as with captain Tasha Gay Lynch at goal defence and goal attack Shaye Walton at their best they continued to pile on the pressure and led 37-3 at half team.

tough going

Despite showing some improvement in the second half the defending champions still found the going tough as G.C. Foster romped to an emphatic victory.

Coach C Lloyd Walker who is also the national coach of the Under 16 team was very pleased with his team's win despite fielding a more inexperience team than last year.

"I am pleased with how the girls came out and played as despite losing four of our starters from last year's second place team and with a less experienced team their performance was encouraging," said Walker.

title defence

There was also action in the Intermediate and Junior competition. In Intermediate action, defending champions Mico University started their title defence on a winning 35-14 over Moneague Teacher's College at Moneague. It was a good game for goalshooter Monique Smith who scored twenty six points from thirty attempts.

In other Intermediate games, the University of West Indies defeated Portmore Community College 27-14 while in Junior League action, Northern Caribbean University (NCU) dispatched Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) 18-1.
