Police receive computer donation

Rasbert Turner, Portmore Star Writer

The St Catherine South Traffic Department is now better able to record traffic violation and store data.

This was made possible by the donation of a computer, courtesy of Dennis Shipping Company Incorporated.

The computer was handed over on Thursday at the offices of Superintendent Anthony Powell at the Portmore Police Station in St Catherine.

Powell told THE PORTMORE STAR the gesture is really appreciated by the police because it will help to make their work easier, as they can get critical info at the touch of a button. "We are thankful that Dennis Shipping finds it worthwhile to support the work of the police; it can only assist us, especially in keeping our data up-to-date, by simply logging on. It forms a part of our drive to full computerisation of the police record keeping," Superintendent Powell said.

Chief Executive Officer of Dennis Shipping Association Dennis Hawthorne said: "The police need all the help they can get; therefore, as a law-abiding citizen I think it is very important that we constantly help to build our nation. The donation of this computer marks our continued effort to help law enforcement."

He told THE PORTMORE STAR that, having been contacted by Inspector Michael Llewellyn, who is in charge of traffic, he did not hesitate to heed to the call.

The computer costs $50,000 and comes fully equipped with a 17-inch monitor.
