Naggo Head bus centre nears completion

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

Within the next three weeks, the Naggo Head Transportation Centre will be the new destination for Route 6 buses that ply the Spanish Town to Bayside route.

This was made clear at the official groundbreaking ceremony for the Naggo Head Transportation Centre on Thursday, October 13, by Mayor of Portmore Keith Hinds.

The centre, which is estimated at a cost of $9 million, is being done courtesy of telecommunication provider LIME.

Work done at the former Naggo Head bus park include, building new sanitary conveniences, building shops, asphalting and markings of destination signs.

''We are very glad that there is a company that has come on stream, to make the first transportation centre come of age, moving from the dust-bowl standard into a modern-day facility. I am very proud of this development, and hope that it will continue,'' Fitz Jackson member of parliament for South St Catherine said.

His views were echoed by councillor for the Naggo Head division Dr Andrew Wheatley, who said it is very good for the community.

Chairman of Planning in the Portmore Municipal Council Leon Thomas said it is great for the municipality. "This is one of many developments to come in Portmore through the LIME partnership," Thomas said.

Chris Dehring, chairman of LIME Jamaica, said his group will continue to work and build Portmore.

When completed, public passenger vehicles will pay $100 daily to use the transportation centre, which will be opened at 4:30 a.m. to midnight.
