Delhi, India:

National triple jump champion Wilbert Walker is heading to the Racers Track Club ahead of next season, in a move that he hopes will propel him to the next level of jumping, as he targets breaking the 17m mark and World Championship success as his immediate goals.

Walker, who jumped a personal best 16.85m on his way to a fifth-place finish at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, is happy with his progress since doing corrective surgery on his left knee, having been without a steady coach for the longest while.

Having completed his studies, the former Morant Bay High School athlete believes that the time his right for him to come back home and has placed his confidence in Glen Mills and his team at Racers Track Club.

"Yes, I am heading to Racers," Walker told Star Sports.

"This season will be my first season there and it's an extremely important season for me."

Walker is hoping to spend some time improving his strength and speed work and believes once he gets those right, he will be a serious factor on the word stage next season.

"I'm looking to go over 17.30m and everything that comes after that I'll be happy with, 17.30m is the mark and the target that I have set for myself for next season," Walker said.

"I see a bright future awaiting me there. I will be looking to improve my speed and strength work and with additional work to my technique I will definitely get there."

The 2006 Central America and Caribbean bronze medallist is happy with his new personal record, especially considering that he only recently conducted surgery to the left knee.

He was seen receiving advice and pointers from former World Champion Trecia Smith, who he credited for helping him with his personal record jump.

"She (Smith) was telling me that my run-up was too short and that I wasn't staying tall and I took her advice and in doing so I got my personal record," Walker noted.

And as far as long jump is concerned, Walker pointed out that it will be added to the programme next season.
