Constable granted $600,000 bail
Constable Sherwin Swaby of the Manchester Police Division was granted bail in the Mandeville Resident's Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

He was granted $600,000 bail with one or two sureties. He is to report three times per week at the Mandeville Police Station.

Swaby is to return to court on November 24.

Constable Swaby was arrested and charged on Tuesday by members of the Anti-Corruption branch after receiving a ruling from the Director of Public Prosecutions .

It is alleged that in June of this year, Swaby seized the vehicle documents of a motorist after discovering that the motorist was in breach of the Road Traffic Act.

He later solicited $10,000 in order not to bring charges against the complainant and to return the documents.

A report was then made to the Anti-Corruption branch. An investigation into the matter followed and the file was subsequently sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions who ruled that Swaby be charged with two counts of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.
