woman on fraud rap denied bail

A woman who collected $620,000 under the pretence that she is the owner of a 2002 Nissan motor car that was up for sale was remanded in court yesterday.

Melisia Morgan, who pleaded not guilty for obtaining money by false pretence, was remanded because Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey was not convinced that she had learnt her lesson from any of her previous infractions. As this is not the first time Morgan has been coming before the courts on criminal charges.

collected money

It is alleged that on August 5, she collected the money from the complainant Merrick Chambers for the vehicle. However, when the vehicle was not handed over, Chambers reported the matter to the police. It is further alleged that upon police investigations, it was revealed that Morgan is not the owner of the vehicle.

She is to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on November 16, for trial.
