LIME kicks off Campus Crew Tour

When the 1:50 p.m. bell rang at Ascot High in Portmore, St Catherine, last Friday, it signalled not only the end of school for the week but also the beginning of the LIME Campus Crew Tour.

Five minutes after school was over for the day, 'Flava Unit' turned up the music and students headed to a grassy central area where a big stage was set up for the concert. The most eager youngsters rushed to be first at the barrier in front of the stage and the party was definitely on.

Playing on their home ground, the members of Portmore-based sound system were clearly in their element, the Busy Signal double of One More Night and Night Shift were among the tracks that hit home before Tami Chynn and Coco from Hype TV started the live performances rolling.

Chedda declared himself 'Fresh to Death' and ended with the humour of "fake jeans", the cheering students completing "admit it!". There were howls for Tanto Blacks, many of the cool students on the outer edge of the field hurrying across for a close live look at the 'Follow Me on Twitter' man. Ishawna strutted her fine stuff and crooned for "good love", while Timberlee duly stepped in her heels.

It was far from curfew time, but the Ascot students agreed with Wasp "no lock off the sound officer" and also went "on and on" with G-Whizz. And there was no easing up of the excitement, with Alaine, Laden, QQ, Wayne Marshall, D Major, Richie Loops and KipRich hitting home with the Ascot students.

Students got their turn on the big stage too, a limber 'Brown Man' easily winning the dance contest and Shanice taking the singing competition, where Etana selections were the order of the day. They both won LIME prizes, while the telecoms company presented all of Ascot's top academic achievers with BlackBerry phones.

great time

Education was emphasised, as LIME Corporate Communications Manager, Camille Taylor, said while it was wonderful that the students were having a great time, "LIME will also be giving you some computers because information technology is the future".

Two computers and a wireless Internet connection, allowing the teachers to take technology into the classroom, will be lasting testament to LIME's visit to Ascot. Taylor asked: "Are we excited about computers, are we excited about learning?" and the hands went up. She spoke about the students pursuing their studies and emphasised "that is the lesson LIME wants to leave with you is that your education is your first priority".

And although the fun was on, the teachers did not forget the schoolwork. Chynn announced a reminder from Ms Wilson that SBAs were due on Monday, while a message sent through Wasp was more specific: "Ms Wilson say she want the SBAs for social studies."

Deejay QQ (left) is known for his outstanding dance moves, but he met his match in eight year-old Ashantia Smart. Ashantia won a LIME mobile phone when she literally outdanced QQ during his stirring performance.
