BOJ stop FCIB in Inter-bank football

Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) defeated First Caribbean International Bank (FCIB) 3-1 to join defending champions Scotiabank Group, Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) and Pan Caribbean/ Sagicor in the semi-finals of the JNBS/Western Sports sponsored Norman Goodison Inter-bank football competition, after the completion of the final round of preliminary matches on Sunday, October 3 at the NWC playfield, Mona.

JNBS and Pan Carib-bean/ Sagicor drew 1-1 while Scotia-bank Group defeated RBTT 5-3. In the opening match at the NWC playfield, JNBS took the lead in the 50th minute when Stephano Campbell crossed into the penalty box and Kimani Yong's shot was blocked by goalkeeper Andrew Harrison into the path of Mark Powell who latched on to the loose ball and tapped into an empty goal.

Pan Caribbean/Sagicor got the equaliser in the 67th minute after an attack was broken up by goalkeeper Harrison and his clearance was controlled by Christopher Bryan who proceeded to beat a defender before shooting past goalkeeper Jovan Spence.

In the feature match, BOJ's resurgence continued as they defeated FCIB. Since taking over from coach Carl Smith, new coach Clint Reid is yet to lose a match. Dasean Meeks scored a brace in the 50th and 88th minutes while Roy Williams got the opening goal in the 15th minute when his attempted cross eluded goalkeeper Conrad Merchant.

At the old men's hockey field defending champions Scotiabank Group led RBTT 5-0 after 39 minutes but had to defend stoutly in the second half to stop RBTT 5-3. Akeeli Martin gave Scotia-bank the lead in the fourth minute and Stefan Bartley scored the second in the 14th minute.

The league's leading scorer, Richard West, scored a brace in the eighth and 33rd minutes to move his tally to seven goals for the season and Dwayne Lawrence scored the fifth in the 39th minute. Norris Walsh pulled one back for RBTT in the 40th minute after he scored from a melee to make the score 5-1 at half-time. On the resumption Rohan Finley scored the second goal for RBTT in the 77th minute and Kelvin Lawrence scored from the penalty spot in the 79th minute after he was fouled in the box by Melford Alexander.

The competition will take a break for the Heroes Day weekend and will resume on Sunday, October 24 with JNBS facing BOJ and Scotiabank Group opposing Pan Caribbean/Sagicor in the semi-finals.
