G.C. Foster College and UWI 'B' took top honours in the netball rally competition on a wet and rainy day. The Mico University College (Mico) played their hearts out in the final of the senior netball competition and actually led 2-0 before failing to hold off the late rally of G.C. Foster who scored four consecutive goals to win the game 4-2. In the Intermediate final, G.C. Foster were denied the double as home team, UWI pulled off an exciting 7-6 win. In men's basketball, UWI, Mico, University of Technology (UTech) and G.C. Foster all had victories. Mico stopped Brown's Town Community College 31-25, UTech defeated Moneague College 63-57 and G.C. Foster turned back Portmore Community College 54-44. Montego Bay Community College and UWI had walkovers over Caribbean Maritime Institute and Knox Community College who failed to show. There was mixed fortune for the UWI in women's badminton. After defeating Montego Bay 5-0, they suffered a similar defeat to G.C. Foster. In the male competition, the UWI edged G.C. Foster 3-2 while UTech had a big 5-0 win over Montego Bay . Both G.C. Foster and UWI had wins in men's table tennis. Spanish Town-based G.C. Foster beat Mico 3-1 while UWI easily defeated Montego Bay 5-0. Despite heavy underfoot conditions, there were some exciting matches in both men's and women's football. In male action for the Greg Garrell KO Trophy, Church Teachers' College and Brown's Town had close victories as the former edged Vocation Training and Development Institute 2-1, with the latter getting by 3-2 over Sam Sharpe Community College. Mico advanced to the next stage as their expected opponents, Knox, failed to show. In women's action, defending champions G.C. Foster scored a close 1-0 win over UTech while College of Agriculture, Science and Education and Mico had
similar 3-1 victories over Shortwood Teachers' College and Montego Bay, respectively. |
