ISCF member freed of corruption charges

A member of the Island Special Constabulary Force was freed of corruption charges in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

She is Woman Special Corporal Rose-Marie Bell-Wilson of the Portmore police station in St Catherine.

When evidence was tendered, it was revealed that the policewoman did not ask for any money.

The policewoman's attorney Sean Kinghorn told the court that there were also glaring inaccuracies in the accounts given by the investigators, and as such the accused should be freed.

Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green agreed that the investigators had blundered.

DVD

The police told the court they had a DVD of the incident but did not have the equipment to show it.

RM Dunbar-Green then chastised the officers for their ineptitude and told Bell-Wilson she was free to go.

The crown led that on February 16, the corporal was held for reportedly collecting from a motorist.

She is said to have collected $5,000 from the complainant whom she had issued two tickets for traffic breaches.

The Anti-corruption branch went to Portmore, held her and took her to the doctor in order to retrieve the the money.

It was not found but she was charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

She maintained her innocence throughout her numerous court appearances.
