Getting 'hammered' is not love

with Leighton Levy

Once again Bounty Killer has been accused of beating up a woman. He has never been convicted and made to pay for his alleged actions. Any man who has a history of being accused of violence against women clearly has issues. There is no surprise then that this 'cross and hangry' label has stuck with Bounty over the years.

Given that this seems to be Bounty's lot-in-life, here is the million-dollar question. Why do women keep getting involved with him? Seriously, what do they think, they won't end up accusing him of hitting them with hammers? Based on what we have been reading about these latest accusations, the entertainer is bringing new meaning to the term 'hammered'. There was a time when being hammered meant having a bit too much to drink, in the situations in which Bounty have been accused, being hammered is more akin to feeling like a nail.

I blame these women. Yeah, yeah, some of them are just looking for a way out of poverty and some are gold-diggers looking to make lives better. Of course, just about now I am going to be accused of being insensitive to the plight of the less fortunate, but in general here is a little nugget of truth; men who beat women will never stop.

Unfortunately, too many men are accused of it and it's time women wake up to the uncomfortable truth.

There are women out there who feel like their man doesn't love them unless he beats her like Tyson beat Berbick back in '86 but as Professor Fred Hickling alluded in The Gleaner recently, in a significant number of us the elevator doesn't go all the way up to the top floor.

Many of the women who take a shining to being beaten most likely grew up in violent households where they saw their dads beat their mothers like an angry child beats a pillow and then turn around and tell them that they love them. They then grow up believing that this is the norm.

However, with all that, I still can't wrap my mind around why a woman would want to go into a relationship fully aware that there are pretty good odds that she will be smashed to a pulp sooner than later.

The thing with Bounty, if these latest claims are true, is that he is even crosser than before these days. The Government has seized his vehicles over unpaid taxes and that can't be good for his image. It's certainly not nice rolling in anything but a tinted Range Rover or Land Cruiser. That makes a man even more angry and cross. So can you really blame him if these silly women keep getting in the way of his hammer?
