Two charged with unlawful wounding

Theodore Wilson and Neville Lawman, both charged with unlawful wounding after they were involved in an altercation over a woman, pleaded guilty when their matter was mentioned in court last Thursday.

Both men, who are of Corporate Area addresses, were fined for the offence. Wilson was fined $20,000 or six months imprisonment while Lawman was ordered to pay $10,000 or serve a similar time.

Wilson, before admitting to the court that he was involved in a relationship with Lawman's ex-lover, told the court that he was on the his way to drop off a woman and her child to a day-care centre when he noticed the co-accused man's van close to his car.

He told the court that on arriving at the day care, he told the woman not to come out of the car. Wilson added that Lawman drove up behind his car and shouted at him twice, " ... mi must kill yu".

self-defence

Wilson said Lawman drove him down with his van, leaving him no option but to take to the sidewalk. He said the co-accused tried to stab him with something that appeared to be a knife. He explained to the court that it was in self-defence that Lawman got injured as he was fearful that he would have been killed.

Lawman, who pleaded guilty with explanation, told the court that he should not be fined as he also acted in self-defence. He explained to the court that Wilson had him on the ground and almost beheaded him. He said that he had no other option but to use his knife to cut Wilson on his hand. Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey after listening to both sides, then ordered the men to pay the fines.
