Major dealers in cash-for-gold trade charged

Twenty-five-year-old Hipen Patel, businessman of Washer's Crescent, Kingston 11 and 24-year-old Chirag Patel, used car dealer of the said address, were arrested and charged for dealing in second-hand jewellery without a license on the weekend.

Information from the Half-Way Tree police is that a team of officers conducted an operation on a premises on Chelsea Avenue where a quantity of rings, chains, pendants and cash were found. The police also seized two scales which were used to weigh the jewellery. The men who were on the premises at the time were taken into custody and later charged.

They were each granted $100,000 bail and are booked to appear in the Half Way Tree Resident Magistrate's Court on September 8.
