Labourer assaults man with board

A 25-year-old labourer from Pink Lane in Kingston, who assaulted another man with a piece of board because he felt violated by the complainant, had his day in court yesterday.

The accused, Ricardo Lawson, told the court that the complainant "try to touch offa me, your honour".

The court was further informed that on the day of the incident, July 21, the complainant made a report to police officers stationed at the Tivoli Gardens police post. He informed them that earlier on that same day, at around 7 a.m. he was assaulted by Lawson.

According to police reports, the complainant was walking on Beeston Street when, on reaching the vicinity of Pink Lane, a man known to him as 'Brother' used a piece of board to hit him in the head, which caused pain and a swelling. A police team was later dispatched to the location where Lawson was arrested and charged. Lawson was fined $10,000 or six months' imprisonment.
