Children receive free health care

Hundreds of children received free health care courtesy of Alicia's Petcom located in Christiana, Manchester.

The service station hosted its annual Children's Health Fair on the company grounds in dedication to one of its founders, Joan Tomlinson, who recently past away. She was the chief executive officer of the Percy Junor Hospital in the parish.

Project coordinator of the event, Laurian Lue Yen, told THE STAR the occasion was held to assist the children of Christiana. She said there were many parents in the district who were unable to provide proper medical check-ups for their children before school. According to Lue Yen, this was an opportunity to assist the children and to support their business community.

"This is an opportunity for the children of Christiana, so they are well equipped (medically) before they go back to school. We are just trying different ways to help the children of Christiana," said Lue Yen.

The event, supported by various private businesses, was a joint venture with the Percy Junor Hospital and provided free medical and immunisation to all the children at the fair.

The occasion, which was attended by many children, saw food and prizes being offered, as well as competitions to entertain the audience. Numerous booths were also on location and animals from the Hope Zoo.

Lue Yen praised her sponsors for the support she received during the project and promised an even more successful health fair next year.
