COP'S MOM DISSED AT BURIAL?
CRYSTAL HARRISON, STAR Writer

The mother of a slain cop claims that she, along with a justice of the peace, were disrespected at her son's funeral service by a female police officer and one of the pastors.

Slain corporal Omar Duncan, of Haughton Grove, Ramble, Hanover, was attached to the Ramble Police Station before he was killed by suspected robbers on July 26. He was described as a community policeman. However, according to the mother of the slain cop; she was not treated with the courtesy and love that she deserved at his funeral.

The mother told THE STAR that a female police officer, who apparently assisted with the planning of the thanksgiving service and who later identified herself as a family member disrespected her at the funeral.

The mother said that she wanted to include an item in the funeral service from the justice of the peace, but she was told that she should write and publish it in the newspaper. Second, the mother stated that the funeral programme was poorly done, and that she was not given a chance to make a meaningful contribution to the thanksgiving service of her son.

She explained that she had given instructions that at least one person from Kingston should be placed on the programme and no such instructions were carried out. The mother stated that the female officer approached her and said "mek mi si di sinting weh yuh have fi read."

The justice of the peace also told THE STAR that she had to vacate the platform, because she was unable to continue the reading of the eulogy as she was rudely interrupted by the pastor who was chairing the service. She explained that the pastor kept on saying throughout her reading, "brief, mi seh brief." She said she trembled as the congregation was amazed at what was taking place.

She said that at this point, a popular politician was asked to read the eulogy, instead, and he was not interrupted.

But contrary to the reports of the mother and the justice of the peace, when THE STAR contacted the female officer she said, "I am totally taken aback, upset and hurt that I am actually hearing this."

She further stated that she had no confrontation with the mother of the slain cop, or the justice of the peace. Furthermore, she stated that the mother was disrupting the service and she had to calm her down and comfort her. THE STAR also made contact with the pastor who said, "I have no interest in perpetuating controversy."
