NINGEN KARATE returned home on Monday with three gold medals from the United States Open in Orlando, Florida, at the weekend, equaling its haul from last year. Renshi Keith Edwards, Ningen's chief instructor, led from the front by winning gold in the two-man masters team event, pairing with Taekwondo Jamaica's Jason McKay to regain the title they had won in 2006. In all, Ningen bagged 18 medals - three gold, seven silver and eight bronze - with Meadowbrook High School's black belt junior, Alden King, who won gold in traditional kata, boys 14-15. Ningen's other gold medal winner was Marlon Cummings, who won points sparring in the 18-29 beginners men's division, as well as bronze in continuous fighting in the same group. Other notable Ningen performances came from Scott Wright, Adrian King and Orville Hutchinson. Hutchinson won silver in the 30-39 black belt lightweight men's division. Among the juniors, Jamaica College's black belt, Melano Miles, won bronze in traditional kata, 14-15 boys.
