Star Sports has been reliably informed that four more members of Jamaica's 14-member squad, currently preparing for next week's inaugural Caribbean Twenty20 (T20) Championship, were on Wednesday randomly tested by Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) at Sabina Park. The players Wavell Hinds, Carlton Baugh Jr, Danza Hyatt, and Brenton Parchment, joined Xavier Marshall, Marlon Samuels, Odean Brown, and Nikita Miller, as players, whose urine samples are now in the possession of the local drug testing authority. The latter four, like Wednesday's quartet, were paid a surprise visit by the commission on Tuesday. The tests are as a result of JADCO's local mandate to test athletes in and out of competition so as to prevent doping in the sports. It is theorised that before the squad departs for Barbados next week Tuesday they could again be paid a visit by the commission, with a few more players being tested. It is unclear when the results of the tests will be made public. Jamaica, who are reigning regional four-day champions, will be seeking to add the Caribbean T20 crown to their cabinet, when they open their campaign against the Leeward Islands next week Thursday at 8:00pm Jamaica time. They will then take on Canada two days later at 4:00pm, before closing out their preliminary round fixture on Wednesday, July 28 against Trinidad and Tobago. The group winners and runners up will then advance to the semi-finals. The final is slated for Sunday, August 1, with Monday, August 2 being a reserved day. The championship's matches will be broadcast live and delayed on ESPN. |
