![]() Kerron Stewart Raymond Graham Star Writer WORLD and Olympic 100-metre silver medallist Kerron Stewart suffered a major setback to her 2010 campaign as she suffered a right medium hamstring tear while competing in the 200m at the Sotteville - les Rouen Grand Prix Meet in France, last Saturday. In an interview with Star Sports yesterday, her coach Henry Rolle, who was also her college coach at Auburn University, stated that it is unlikely she will compete for several weeks. "Kerron went to the doctor today (yesterday) and she was told to take at least two weeks of total rest to just relaxed and do rehabilitation work, and then the next two weeks she will start light training,"said Rolle. Stewart will definitely miss the National Senior Championships which will be held later this month and Rolle stated that the injury to Stewart is very devastating. "Kerron was really ready to run some great times this year and she was ready to run consistent 10.8's and low 22 seconds as after losing a lot of muscle fat this season, she was really ready to do some great things," he continued. Although not being present at the meet where Kerron was competing, due to school duties at the National NCAA Division 1 Championships at the time, Rolle thinks the condition at the venue at the time had something to do with her injury. "From my understanding, it was very cold and chilly and maybe that condition contributed to her injury," continued Rolle, who stated that Kerron is a very disciplined athlete and does not think her pre-race preparation had anything to do with the injury, when asked if he thought she had not warmed up properly before the race. Rolle is hoping that Stewart will overcome her injury and if she does recover properly, then her next big race will be in Monaco in July. "If she does not recover properly and she makes the decision not to compete for the remainder of the season, I will support her," concluded Henry, who stated that this will allow her to start preparation for the 2011 season much earlier than projected. |
