COLONEL WALES and LIFEISJUSFORLIVING, topweights in Monday's Lotto Classic for the Governor's Cup, will break far apart from each other in the 2000-metre event worth $3.3m.

Wayne DaCosta's LIFEISJUSFORLIVING will break out of stall 14 in the 16-horse field with 56.0 kilos. COLONEL WALES, last year's Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes winner, will start down along the rail at post-position number two with 57.0 kilos.

LIFEISJUSFORLIVING's stablemate, EXCELLENCE, is drawn dead centre at post-position eight, lightly weighted at a dangerous 49.0 kilos with Wesley Henry aboard.

The post positions will be critical in the 2000-metre race as the big field head past the stands for the first time and into the clubhouse turn.

LIFEISJUSFORLIVING is blessed with good speed and should be able to circle rivals quickly to claim the rail heading into the backstretch. However, with his stamina suspect, a rail draw would have been better for the speedy gelding.

On the flip side, COLONEL WALES, might have been better served on the outside as he could get trapped when the field bunches at the round mile.

However, both horses have expert jockeys, who will be taking post positions into consideration in their pre-race plans.

Winston Griffiths, the country's top classic jockey, is aboard Percy Hussey COLONEL WALES whereas three-time defending champion Omar Walker partners Wayne DaCosta's LIFEISJUSFORLIVING.

Both trainers have dismissed their horses' performance in the 2000 Guineas and are brimming with confidence even though giving away weight all around to improving runners such as HEARTOFACHAMPION and JUNIOR MINISTER, who will definitely get the distance.

Champion trainer DaCosta says LIFEISJUSFORLIVING was not himself when beaten by Richard Azan's MARK MY WORD in the 2000 Guineas.

The champion trainer is banking on his charge's runaway victory at 1200 metres on May 12, saying the speedy gelding is "back to his best".

"He did what he had to do. He ran right back to his best," said DaCosta. "I don't think he ran to his best in the 2000 Guineas. They graded the track the week of the race. The track was extremely slow. I don't know if it affected his performance."

DaCosta said he was not worried about 10 furlongs although LIFEISJUSFORLIVING was caught at eight.

"He's the class horse in the race and only one horse passed him in the Guineas, and he won't be in the Governor's Cup. Why not take a chance?" he asked.

COLONEL WALES has not won a race in two starts since landing the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes last November but Hussey says his runner should be a sure thing.

He said he has "corrected a fault" which had caused the bay colt to finish down the track in the 2000 Guineas.

Topweight 57.0 kilos, Hussey said, will be a true test of COLONEL WALES' Derby chances.

"If he can't win with 57.0 kilos, he certainly won't win the Derby with 57.0," said Hussey.

"If I lose with the weight - which I won't think I will - by less than five to a horse I am allowing three to seven kilos, that horse will not stand a chance against me in the biggest race, which is the Derby," Hussey reasoned.
