Sixty-eight-year-old Errol Muir, who is charged with incest, was granted bail in the sum of $80,000 when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Muir, who is mute, is being accused of constantly having sex with his daughter over a three-year period.

He was held by the police after his daughter, who is now 15 years old related her dilemma to her mother. Two interpreters from the Jamaica Association for the Deaf (JAD) assisted the court. When Muir was pleaded he indicated that he was not guilty to the offence.

Allegations before the court are that on April 3 the mother left the complainant at home in the company of her father. She came back unexpectedly and found Muir having sex with the teenager.

A report was made to the Portmore police and the Centre for Investi-gation of Sexual Offence and Child Abuse started an investigation.

Muir was picked up by the police. However, the JAD had to be contacted for assistance.

He was granted bail on condition that he reports to the Waterford Police Station in St Catherine and is to return to court on July 22 for preliminary inquiry to start in the matter.
