Farmer pleads guilty

A St Catherine farmer who took the law into his own hands by beheading three goats that ate his cultivation, pleaded guilty in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Convicted for cruelty to animal is Fitzroy Brown of Guanaboa Vale, St Catherine.

Facts before the court are that on May 1, the complainant's ewe and two kids, valued about $37,500, were chopped to death by Gordon, who caught them in his field. Gordon is said to have got angry, after warning the complainant that his goats were eating down his cultivation.

The complainant admitted the mother of the accused had told him of the problem with the animals.

"The court understand your frustration, however, you cannot carry out such a cruel act. You needed to have taken the matter to the court for action to be taken," Resident Magistrate's Marcia Dunbar-Green said.

The accused was told to return to court on July 13, with $37,500, for sentencing.
