Contrasting reactions

The entertainment fraternity was rocked by the news that a member of the popular group Voicemail, Oniel Edwards, had been ambushed and shot by gunmen early Monday morning.

Shocked and stunned, the entertainers gathered in Half-Way Tree and the Kingston Public Hospital for a vigil dedicated to their injured colleague.

cry for peace

While it is heart-warming to see such an outpouring of love and unity in a sector that is often divided into various groups and crews, such togetherness and a cry for peace is needed every time someone gets attacked or murdered.

Just the other day, two children, both five years old, were brutally killed, one was shot while the others' throat was slashed. While there was some amount of talk over these gruesome deaths, these killings did not spark much discussions as they should have.

deeper reaction

While it is understood that people will have a deeper reaction to news affecting those they are close to, as a nation we all must be concerned about the murder of every single person. Every person that dies is someone's relative and with every death, the monster of crime comes closer to each of us.

It is therefore time for us to all play our part in speaking out about crime, rather than waiting for it to affect us personally before we become concerned.
