Imported gun, ammo land man in court

A man accused of importing a gun and several rounds of ammunition into the island is to be tried in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on June 30.

Charged with importing a firearm, importing ammunition, conspiracy to import a firearm and conspiracy to import ammunition is Clifton Davis, 50, of Harbour View, Kingston.

Allegations are that on May 26, 2008, Davis went to a shipping agency at the wharf and presented documents for a barrel to be cleared. He reportedly proceeded to the wharf where the barrel was scanned and some irregular objects were detected.

barrels were searched

It is alleged that Davis was told that the barrel would have to be searched and he left.

The barrel was searched and a black Beretta 9mm pistol, 143 9mm rounds and 11 .40 calibre rounds, were reportedly found inside.

It is further alleged that the accused man was not held until November 6, 2008.

Davis, who is challenging the allegations, is on $500,000 bail. This was extended until his trial date.
