A former Jamaica Defence Force lance corporal charged with firing his licensed firearm at a dance, was granted $300,000 bail in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court earlier this week.

Charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, and also discharging a firearm less than 100 feet from a public thoroughfare is Medroy Harris.

In applying for bail, defence attorney Michael Deans, told the court that Harris has been a law abiding citizen. He said Harris may have been a bit exuberant in his action, but will turn up for court when he is required.

Resident Magistrate Simone Maddix then granted Harris bail with one or two sureties.

Investigating officer Kirk Roache outlined in court that on April 3, the accused was at a dance in Crawle district, St Catherine, when he brandished his gun and fired shots in celebration of some songs.

The police received a report and investigations led to Harris being arrested and charged. He returns to court on May 4.
