A policeman who was taken into custody after a report was made that two men attempted to rob a policewoman of her motor car was released yesterday when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Constable Ordane Hutchinson was released and is now a free man following a ruling made by the director of public prosecutions.

Hutchinson was held by the police last week when police stopped a motor car in which he and his friend were travelling after a report was made of the attempted robbery.

It was reported that the two men who attempted to rob the policewoman of her motor car were travelling in a grey Toyota Fielder motor car. Hutchinson and his friend were stopped by the police because they were travelling in a motor car fitting that description. Hutchinson was a passenger in the motor car. Hutchinson's friend who was the driver of the motor car was taken into custody but was released the next day.

Attorney-at-law Vincent Wellesley who represented Hutchinson made an application in court on Monday that Hutchinson should be released because the case was one of mistaken identity and he was innocent.

The case was put off by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey until yesterday. When the case was mentioned yesterday the investigating officer in the case told the court that the file was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions who ruled that Hutchinson must be released immediately.
