A man implicated in a massive guns and ammunition seizure at Port Bustamante earlier this year is again in hot water, following the uncovering of a reported land title racket by Operation Kingfish. Courtney 'Ras' Thomas, a customs broker assistant, and Linda Wilkie, 61, both of Brunswick Avenue, Spanish Town, St Catherine, have been charged in connection with the racket. Thomas is charged with conspiracy to defraud while Wilkie is charged with impersonation with intent to defraud and conspiracy. She was also charged for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act as a quantity of ganja was allegedly found in her possession. Investigators doing an operation at a premises at Brunswick Avenue said to be owned by Thomas, uncovered the scam as some 60 authentic land titles were found there. Several tax receipts with photographs attached which were signed and under the seal of a St Andrew Justice of the Peace (JP) were also found. The document, which bears the serial # D00551, was reportedly stolen from the JP's car sometime ago. As such the public is being advised to be wary of any documents bearing this seal number. A considerable amount of the titles were for properties at Green Acres and Frenchman Heights, both in St. Catherine and Albion Estate in St. Thomas. One investigator told THE STAR that police got wind of the scam after property owners reported to seeing their properties being advertised for sale. The scam is also believed to involve the input of criminals associated with the notorious Clansman gang. On January 11, a team from the Contraband Enforcement Team carried out an operation at Port Bustamante where a consignment of goods from the Us was searched and 12 guns, including four high powered rifles, and more than 700 rounds of assorted ammunition, were reportedly found. Thomas and two women from Spanish Town, who had gone to clear the consignment, were arrested. The women were later arrested. Thomas and Wilkie will appear in court in June. |
