Police fire report due today

A report on the cause of the fire which destroyed the barracks at the Barnett Street police station in Montego Bay, St James on Good Friday morning, is expected today.

Acting Superintendent of the St James division of the Jamaica Fire Brigade Dolphin Doeman said investigations were close to being completed and the findings should be submitted today.

Last Friday, 33 firefighters from the Freeport and Ironshore fire stations fought the blaze for over an hour, using seven fire units to put out the flames which started some time about 8 a.m.

No one was seriously injured, but at least 30 members of the Island Special Constabulary Force, who were being housed at the barracks, lost their uniforms and personal items.

One policeman claimed to have lost $575,000 which he borrowed from a bank to purchase a vehicle.
