Policeman relieved of duty

The police officer reportedly involved in the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Everton Parchment, who was killed on Spanish Town Road on Saturday night hours after he served as a best man at his friend's wedding, has been removed from frontline duty.

The Denham Town police report that about 10:25 p.m., a Toyota Fielder motor car being driven by Parchment was stopped by the police. Shortly after, an explosion was heard and he was seen bleeding from a gunshot wound. The shot reportedly came from a policeman's gun. Parchment later died in hospital.

Following the incident, several persons including policemen who witnessed the incident have given statements to the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI). The police are also appealing to witnesses who saw what happened to come forward and give statements.

A preliminary report from the BSI is expected to be presented to the Acting Commissioner of Police today.
