Relatonship with cousin leads to murder/suicide
A St James man who was apparently upset that his girlfriend left him after finding out she was his cousin, stabbed and killed her before committing suicide on Wednesday.

Thirty-five year-old Kenyouth Brissett of Barnett Bush in St James, chopped and stabbed 22-year-old Shadae Barker to death on the Barnett Bush main road.

Allegations are that Brissett and Barker were involved in an intimate relationship which produced two children, ages 1 and 3. Barker later found out that they were cousins and decided to end the relationship, but Brissett objected to the proposal.

On Wednesday, Brissett armed himself with a knife and machete and confronted Barker in the presence of two of her relatives, both ten years old. A dispute developed between the two and he used the weapons to chop and stab her to death before escaping in nearby bushes. The police were summoned and Barker's body removed to the morgue.

Brissett's body was discovered in the evening by residents hanging by a length of cord from a tree. The police were summoned and his body was also removed to the morgue.

The Mt Salem CIB and the Spring Mount Police are investigating.
