My parents dislike my boyfriend |

Dear Pastor, I am a regular reader of your column and I would appreciate you honest opinion. I am a foreigner, but I am living in Jamaica. I am in my 20s. I am white and have fallen in love with a Jamaican man. This man loves me. I can feel it. My parents are not excited about this relationship, although this man is cultured and educated. When my father speaks about him, he does so mockingly. My mother says it is my choice, but she wonders how my boyfriend will fit into the family. My parents are not racist. Please do not get me wrong. They just want the best for me, I think. U., St. Andrew, Jamaica Dear U., Did I hear you say that your parents are not racist? Big joke. They want the best for you. Why can't the best for you be found in a black man? Of course, I know there are some social problems in interracial relationships. "But love covers the multitude of sins." social problems Your parents ought not to try to decide for you in this matter. Your happiness is what counts. Would you be happy with this Jamaican man? Are you in love with each other? Can both of you live with the social problems that you both may encounter? If the answer is yes to all of the questions, then, my dear, go for it! Pastor |
