Dear Pastor,

My father used to drink on weekends, but he would just sleep after he became drunk. He did not go out to drink, he did it at home. He did not keep other women either.

My mother did not sleep with him when he drank. She could not stand his breath. And she used to take money out of his pocket when he was drunk.

She had a gambling problem. She was always betting on horse racing and she never sent us to church. She used to buy 'drop hand' with the money she would get from my father.

My mother is now a Christian. She has changed, but my father does not like the church that she attends. He said if she can change, anybody can change.

unclean

My father said now that she is a Christian, she does not want to have sex with him because she says that he is unclean and her body is holy. This is creating a problem between them.

J.F., St. Andrew, Jamaica

Dear J.F.,

I am glad to hear that your mother has become a Christian, but she should not try to force your dad to follow in her footsteps. In fact, the way she is behaving now may cause him never to become a member of the church she is attending. And he may go else where for sex.

Your mother should read what the Bible says about sex within marriage. First Corinthians 7:1-6 teaches that married people should have sex and satisfy each other. You should read it to her.
