A member of the Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) has been taken into custody for breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.

The special corporal, who works in the St Catherine North division, was held on Friday by detectives from the Anti-Corruption Branch after he allegedly attempted to collect money from someone.

His name is being withheld by investigators, who have declined to give details of the circumstances leading to the corporal's arrest.

collecting $10,000

The special corporal is the third member of the force to be held in St Catherine within a three-week period for breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.

A constable at the Linstead Police Station is now before the courts after he was allegedly caught collecting $10,000 from a motorist, while a detective sergeant at the Portmore Police Station was reportedly held collecting $100,000 from the relative of a man whom he had charged with murder.

In an interview with the Star recently, acting Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington said the force has no place for corrupt police personnel. "We want police personnel who are committed to the fight against criminal activities, which is getting more dynamic each day, therefore, they cannot expect to get themselves corrupt in the system, there is no space for it,'' Ellington said, following a ceremony at the Twickenham Park Police Academy.
