Cops seeking crucial witnesses

The Major Investigations Task Force (MIT) is seeking witnesses with information that can lead to the arrest and charge of person(s) responsible for the gun murder of Andrew Nelson, 43, of Mount Pellier district, Yallahs, St Thomas, and the robbery of a female police officer's firearm along the Portmore Toll Road on Friday, November 6.

The CCN had earlier reported that at about 8:20 p.m. on November 6, Nelson was driving his Dodge Ram motor truck, with the officer aboard, along the toll road.

On reaching the vicinity of the wharf, he stopped and exited the vehicle, and was pounced upon by four men armed with guns, who shot him. The female officer was then robbed of her service pistol, twenty-six 9mm rounds and other personal items including her handbag.

The robbers then forced the injured man back into the vehicle, during which the officer managed to escape. One of the gunmen allegedly fired a shot at her but she escaped injury. Nelson's body was eventually found slumped in the front seat of the abandoned vehicle at Twickenham Close, Kingston 11.

Anyone with information that can assist the police is being asked to contact the Major Investigation Task Force at 948-1329, 922-5344 or 922-2363, Crime Stop at 311, Kingfish at 811, police 119 emergency numbers, or the nearest police station.
