One of three men killed in alleged shoot-out

Two of three men who reportedly engaged the police in a shoot-out along Cumberland Boulevard, Cumberland, Portmore, St Catherine on Tuesday night, were shot, one fatally, during the exchange.

The dead man, who is believed to be about 18, is of brown complexion and about 175 centimetres (5 feet 9 inches) tall. He was clad in black pants, red T-shirt, black sneakers and sports plaits. Injured is a 21-year-old man of Newlands in the parish. His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

Reports are that about 8:30 p.m., police went into Cumberland community after receiving reports of persons being robbed by a group of men. The lawmen were along the boulevard when three men were seen and accosted.

The men reportedly pulled firearms and opened fire at the cops. The fire was returned and a shoot-out reportedly followed. The shootings ended and the two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds. The third man escaped in the area.

A Browning 9mm pistol with a magazine containing six 9mm cartridges, was allegedly taken from one of the men. They were taken to hospital where the unidentified man was pronounced dead and the 21-year-old man admitted under police guard.

The Bureau of Special Investigation is investigating.
