Detectives from the Fraud Squad were called in last week to probe a possible case of fraud at the Ministry of Labour.

THE STAR learnt that at least two employees, including a supervisor, have been suspended as investigations progresse.

compromise the case

Labour Minister, Pearnel Charles confirmed that the police were indeed called in but declined to comment further, saying he does not want to compromise the case.

Investigators say more than $1.5 million was reported missing from the ministry.

The money is reportedly rent fees for a property at the Portmore Mall, St Catherine and included payments made between 2006-2007.
