Man accused of 'glass plate' assault gets 12 months probation

A man accused of using a glass plate to hit his significant other in the face, told the court he was drunk at the time.

Charged with unlawful wounding is Paul Gordon.

The court heard that on the day in question, both had an argument during which the complainant was hit in the face with a glass plate. In the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, Resident Magistrate Georgianna Fraser told Gordon he could not go around beating up women like that.

He replied, "Is not really beat up your honour, is drunk mi did drunk."

When asked if he had ever been in trouble before, he said 'yes', but added that it was "nothing big." He later revealed it was because he had been drinking why he had also been in trouble before.

The complainant told the court that she did not want to be compensated, nor did she want to make up with him, in response to RM Fraser's questions about what she wanted to see happen to the accused.

RM Fraser told Gordon he needed to check his drinking habits. She sentenced him to 12 months probation, with drug treatment as a mandatory aspect.
