Manchester-based Broadleaf All-Age School has received a new sanitary facility constructed at a cost of $2 million by Jamalco. At the handing over ceremony on November 12, Principal of the school, Pauline Wallace, explained that, in 2007, she approached Jamalco to undertake the project and, despite the wait, it was worth it. challenging times "Today we reap the rewards for maintaining that faith. Thank you for recognising the need for such facilities, and caring enough to undertake the project," she said. She noted that it was no mean, easy or inexpensive venture, and the fact that the bauxite/alumina industry is going through turbulent and challenging times, served to underscore the importance of Jamalco's input. "I urge the members of the school community to take the greatest care of this facility. Let us demonstrate our appreciation, by ensuring that the facilities are kept in immaculate and good working order," Mrs Wallace stated. Mines manager at Jamalco, Leighton Jones, reiterated his company's commitment to the improvement of the communities they operate in. "The mining community is important to the success of our organisation and is very important to the future of our country, so we have to give back. Today is a portion of the give back to the communities, our nation and more importantly, the future of our children," he said. Recently the company built a multi-purpose court for the school, at a cost of $1 million. |
