Magnum '10 Long 10 Strong' rocked May Pen |
|||||
This Magnum Girl gets the 'Ruff It Up' treatment from Chino. - Contributed All the performers on Saturday night's Magnum '10 Long 10 Strong' anniversary road show in May Pen, Clarendon certainly gave patrons something to talk about. Selector, Boom Boom, kick-started the night with early juggling selections, then later on, host Pretty Boy Floyd set the venue on fire with his superb hosting skills: sometimes calling female patrons onstage for wining contests; going as far as requesting any female patron who would dare to take off her wig and reveal her 'true beauty'. He also instructed a 'fluffy' female patron to jump on him, (he quickly moved of course), among other antics. "Ah who yuh waah come bruk up. Look pon your size an' look pon poor likkle me," he said. Other selectors, Sunshine and selecting champion, Pink Panther worked the crowd into a feverish-frenzy with their energy and song selections. Later on when Boom Boom again hit the stage, there was no holding him back - not from jumping into the crowd, and in no uncertain terms, 'daggering' the Magnum Girls. Designer, Mamayashi also made quite a stir with her Afrocentric designs. Mamayashi, who returns to New York for a year, opted to showcase her designs at the Magnum roadshow before leaving next month. While on stage, she said interested persons can get her clothes from the Stanley and Empress Boutique on Hope Road, St. Andrew. solid dancehall routine Also a hit with the crowd, were the Shady Squad dancers, who did a solid dancehall routine. Soon after, Dancehall/Reggae artiste, Chino rocked the crowd with his hits like From Mawnin', Protected, Ruff It Up, (Gal Dem Want Mi) Style It Fi Dem among others. A few minutes after 'ruffing it up' on some Magnum girls and doing a brief rendition of his father, Freddie McGregor's, I Will Wait For You, which he sang to one of the girls onstage, he exited the stage on a high-note. This made way for the 'Mumma of the Dancehall', Lady Saw. During her energetic set, Lady Saw also humorously declared, "Women, don't let no man tek no pictuh of oonu wid nutten inna oonu mout'." The crowd roared. Her 25-minute set was imbibed with non-stop energy while she sang crowd favourites including, Sycamore Tree, Backshot, Walk Out and more. This Saturday, November 28, the Magnum 10th anniversary road show hits Alexandria, St. Ann with a woman that Lady Saw herself has dubbed, 'The Next Queen of The Dancehall' - Spice. Also performing are Voicemail, Tifa, Pretty Boy Floyd, Fire Links, ZJ Chrome, the Magnum Girls and more. The free event begins at 10pm sharp and ends at 2am.
