Reigning national champion Peter Moo-Young has credited a high degree of preparation and relaxation for his Men's Open success at the first annual Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA)-sanctioned Extreme Spin Open Table Tennis Championship at the YMCA, which was staged last weekend.

According to Moo-Young, who got the better of main rival and current number-one ranked Joseph Dibbs 4-2 in the final, extra training before the start of the tournament paid off in the end.

"I was far more fluent against Dibbs than ever before. I was very relaxed and confident as heading in the championship, I trained properly," said Moo-Young, who outlasted Dibbs 11-5, 5-11, 10-12, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7 in what was a best of seven set series. Moo-young took home $30,000 for his efforts and Dibbs $15,000.

"Additionally, I think I played extremely well, given the draws I got. I could have lost to Dale Earham, a national player in the first round, and in the quarter-finals I had to play Christopher Marsh, a three-time national champion. So it was a very difficult package," he added.

Moo-Young, a two-time national champion and Caribbean Championship bronze medallist, in winning the championship, is expected to regain the number-one spot from Dibbs, who won the Mandeville Open last month. Moo-Young had the number-one spot heading into the Mandeville Open after winning the national championship a few months ago. The rankings are published each month.

Meanwhile, Moo-Young was only one of 14 winners during the event with reigning national female champion Yvonne Foster taking the Women's Open in five sets ahead of Shenique Claire, and the girls' 16 & under title over Rui Cao.

Other winners included championship MVP Mark Phillips, who won the boys' Under-16 and men's C titles, Miles Harrison (boys' U-10), Simon Ho-On (boys' U-12), Davia Greene (boys' U-13), Peter-John Goldson (boys' U-14), and Kareem Flowers (boys' 18 & under), Michael Cai/Foster (mixed doubles), Samuel Lamont (men's over 40), and Robert Hyatt (men's B).
