Rasbert Turner, Star Writer
A bus driver who was being sought following the death of a seven-year-old boy last week turned himself over to the police yesterday. Winston Taylor from Portmore, St Catherine, walked into the Central Village Police Station in the company of his attorney and representatives from the taxi association. Following investigations, he was charged with manslaughter, not stopping after an accident and failing to report an accident. He is booked to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on September 29. The police expressed gratitude for the high level of cooperation shown by the taxi association which heeded to the calls from the authorities to ask their colleague to turn himself in. About 3 p.m. on September 15, Dennis Brown from Caymanas Bay, St Catherine, was on his way home from school when he was hit by a bus which did not stop. The child was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital where he died hours later. Following Brown's death, residents of Caymanas Bay protested and requested that the driver turn himself into the police. Police later launched a search for the driver and found the bus which was involved in the
accident. |
