Usain fears injury

Olympic and world triple gold medallist, Usain Bolt, said his decision to call an early end to his season was because of injury concerns.

On his official website usainbolt.com, Bolt was quoted as saying, "the season has been long and has been filled with early challenges I faced. In addition the risk of injury becomes greater if I compete in the shape I am in, I may be at great risk."

sprint double

Bolt ran 15 100m races, heats included, and had eight 200m outings, which also included the heats. Like he did at last year's Beijing Olympics, Bolt captured the World Championships sprint double while lowering his own world 100 and 200 metres records to 9.58 and 19.19. He also helped Jamaica to the sprint relay title.

The sprinter claims he was "suffering from fatigue as early as the Zürich meet and after careful discussions with his coach and management team, along with medical advice, we felt it necessary to close the season," he said.

an early end

The world's fastest man decided to call an early end to his season by pulling out of 100m races in Shanghai on September 20 and in Daegu on September 25.

Bolt said he know, the Chinese fans will be disappointed, but pleaded for their understanding as he went home to rest in order to prepare for next year's exploits.

"I thank all of you for your support and I look forward to coming to China next year," Bolt said.

The 23-year-old will close his season with a race over the 200 metres at the World Athletics Final in Thessaloniki, Greece tomorrow.

Bolt will return to the island on Monday afternoon.
