Strikers defeat Waterhouse 3-0 |

Portmore Strikers are firmly in the driver's seat following their 3-0 first-leg victory over nemesis Waterhouse in the Semi-final of the Sherwin Williams-sponsored women's Premier League on Wednesday. The Portmore side got goals from Iesha Mowatt (penalty), Abigail Walter and Kelly-ann Fearon. Strikers will this afternoon try to protect that lead when they play the 'Firehouse' team at Stadium East at the 2 p.m., while at 4 p.m., defending champions Barbican go head-on with Harbour View. Portmore schools gear up for Manning Cup season Bridgeport High lead four Portmore schools in this year's ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup season. Bridgeport, the 2006 champs, tackle Kingston High in a group E match at the Ferdie Neita Park on Tuesday. Another Portmore school group A team Waterford, which had their best season in 2007 with a fourth-place finish, play against Donald Quarrie in their opening game on their home turf. Cumberland, drawn in group C, open against Trench Town at home on Monday, and Ascot in group F, also play on Monday, away to Charlie Smith, all games begin at 3:30 p.m. Eastern All-Stars still unbeaten Orville Clarke, Portmore Star Writer Defending champions Eastern All-Stars remained the only unbeaten team in the Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum skittles competition when they defeated Waltham Strikers 7-4 in a Zone 'A' match in East Kingston last Sunday. Eastern All-Stars are unbeaten in four matches and seemingly on course for a place in the semi-final even with the return rounds of the competition still to come. Also winning last Sunday were Meadowvale, the Portmore-based team slamming Dragon 9-2 in another Zone 'A' match at Meadowvale (Caymanas Boulevard). In the only other Zone 'A' match for the day, Rowe's Strikers clipped Eagles (formerly Cherry's Strikers) 6-5 in a home match at Chelsea Avenue. In Zone 'B', Willies defeated Olympic Strikers 7-4 at Willies, Spanish Town Road (Three Miles); Mr C. clipped Mercury 6-5 in the Spanish Town derby, while House of Peace also nipped Mystix 6-5 in a home match in Whitfield Town. Meanwhile, the Wray & Nephew White Overproof St Ann singles competition kicked off in the parish last Sunday with Garnett Frater, Lawford Grant, Courtney Brown and Yvonne Watson among the players advancing to the next round. The Wray & Nephew competition continues tomorrow with three matches each in Zone 'A' and 'B', respectively. Zone 'A' - Waltham vs Rowe's Strikers, Eagles vs Eastern, Meadowvale vs Starliner. Zone 'B' - Olympic vs Mr C, Mercury vs Willies and House of Peace vs Portmore's The Dip. Home teams are named first.
