An elderly woman from a Westchester home is counting her blessings following the reception of a brand-new wheelchair courtesy of Helping Hand Limited, a non-profit organisation in Westchester. Merella Williams, 88, received the wheelchair on Monday, August 31, two days after her birthday. "This is a well-needed birthday gift," Councillor for the Westchester Division, Shane Dalling, said. "This wheelchair donated by Hand Farm is to assist her with her mobility around the house and in the community, this gives her a breath of fresh air." Joining in the presentation was Oscar Williams, president of Hand Farm United, and Mayor of Portmore Keith Hinds. assistance Williams, a member of the Tent City Adventist Church, is unable to walk without assistance, but can do other stuff to help herself. "She does everything for herself, except to walk and cook her food," Donnett Archer, one of her granddaughters, said. At the close of the presentation members of Helping Hand Limited prayed for the woman before their departure. Helping Hand United, alongside Hand Farm, has focused on the betterment of the less fortunate people in the community such as the elderly and shut-ins. Helping Hand assists the helpless by doing their laundry, bathing them and painting their houses while Hand Farm delivers vegetables from its farm to the needy in the community. |
