A freak accident in Mendez district, St Catherine, has left some community members mourning the death of businessman Warren Thomas from the area.

Reports from the Point Hill police are that about 12:30 p.m., Thomas was a passenger in his Leyland truck in the Point Hill area when the truck reached an area known as Old Works and got out of control while descending a hill.

The vehicle trapped the driver Robert Hamilton inside the cab while Thomas was trapped under the truck where he died. Hamilton was later hospitalised.

A number of residents told The Star that Thomas was a very productive member of their community and that he will be sadly missed.

''Is about two weeks now that him get back the truck from the garage and look how it tek him life, he was special,'' said Novellette Natty, a resident of the Mendez community.

Her views echoed throughout the affected community and others say that the deceased was a real community leader in many ways.

''Him always sound the horn when he past through the area to his house, he is a nice nice man,'' Michelle Paris stated.

Meanwhile Corporal Kiffra Bent of the Point Hill Police Station said investigation continues in the matter.
