FIX-IT - Long wait for road repair

With the hurricane season approaching, it is hoped that the intersection of Waltham Park Road and Oakland Crescent, St Andrew, will be repaired urgently. - Norman Grindley

AS PART of our mission to be the People Paper, THE WEEKEND STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our reporter, Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. We will then have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.

So, we're wondering what's the hold up with Waltham Park Road. We were informed about a month ago that work would commence as soon as the drain clearing was complete. We were also promised that the real problem - water running under the road undermining it - would be corrected.

Well, we are in a hurry to see this section of the road completed, and done properly. A stitch in time saves nine. Are they going to wait on the rains to start and then rehabilitate the entire road?

1. Garelli Avenue - 5 months, 2 weeks.

Agency Responsible: Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC).

This avenue leading to Trafalgar Road has been in a terrible condition for a long time and continues to get worse.

2. Waltham Park Road - 4 months, three weeks.

Agency Responsible: National Works Agency (NWA).

This strip of road near 44 Waltham Park Road, just before the gully, started going bad with two potholes. It has now totally deteriorated into a short stretch of large stones and rubble.

3. Pedestrian crossing on the corner of Parish Place - 4 months, 2 weeks.

Agency Responsible: National Works Agency (NWA).

This pedestrian crossing on the corner of Parish Place, off Constant Spring Road, is a nuisance to motorists and poses a serious danger to pedestrians, who receive the walk signal at the same time motorists turning get a green light.
