Foreigner guilty of drug trafficking |

|
A Surinamese man who pleaded guilty to attempting to export marijuana from the island was sentenced to a $32,000 fine and three months in jail when his case was mentioned in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. Charged with possession, dealing in and attempting to export marijuana is Stephanos Kago. The court was told that on May 2, Kago was preparing to leave the island for Barbados when his luggage was X-rayed and a false compartment discovered. Three parcels containing ganja weighing 1.14kg were found. Kago, who told the court that his English was not very good, said he was sorry about what he did and would never do it again. He was ordered to have his fingerprints taken. sentence Kago was sentenced to $4,000 or three months for possession, $8,000 or three months for dealing in and $20,000 or three months for attempting to export the drug. He will also have to serve a mandatory three-month sentence. |
