Memories of the recent GraceKennedy/ISSA Boys and Girls' Athletic Championships were still fresh in the young men's minds as they spoke with fellow classmates about their victory.
The Kingston College students boasted about their victory and, according to them, a victory is a victory whether it is by one or 100 points.
For the rest of the month, THE STAR will be featuring some of the athletic stars from the recent games and what better place to start than with the 2009 winners of 'Boys Champs', Kingston College.
Our focus today is Keiron Stewart, one of the main athletes behind Kingston College's victory. The sixth former, who possesses the title for the 110 and 400 metres hurdles, said that this year's 'Champs' was a challenging one.
"It was a real battle between us and Calabar and a lot of soldiers fell on both sides, but we maintained our focus and carried it home," said Stewart.
Stewart told THE STAR that training was extremely rigorous and got more difficult as the competition drew near.
His training included a lot of strength, sand and track exercises. He was also quick to add that he had to maintain a balanced diet along with vitamins.
The focused runner was clear about his track future. "First and foremost, I am heading to the University of Texas and just maintain my focus for the World Champs in 2011 and the Olympics in 2012," said Stewart.
He told THE STAR that his mother has played an instrumental part in his achievements and that he looks up to her because she is always supportive of his athletic career.
