Bramma - Contributed
In this weekly Muss Buss Caan Buss song review feature, three musical minds will analyse each song and will grade it on vocal ability, lyrics, musical arrangement and appeal. Songs that make the grade will be dubbed 'Mus Buss', while songs that flop will be dumped in the 'Caan Buss' bin.
The three reviewers welcome feedback from the artistes and the public about the column. Send your comments to bussdem@hotmail.com or mail in your songs to 'Muss Buss' at The Gleaner Company, 7 North Street, Kingston. This week the muss buss/caan buss team will be reviewing Bramma's Children's Cry (Chimney Records).
Lady Boo: "Yuh waan know seh mi cyaan hear a ting him a seh."
Queen: I completely agree. di only audible part is di bawling.
Lady Boo: As him lef out of di chorus and go into the verse mi hear him a bit better, but mi always have a general problem wid him, wid di level of his clarity, cause is really poor.
Queen: I have to wonder if dis crying sound he uses in his music is aimed at making the song more touching.
Witch: Yeah, he has that way of dragging his words, but once you get past that then yuh can start hear him. but the chorus of voices in the background, it mad, it adds to the message or impact of the song.
Queen: Well, dat may be so but not every time him mus overdo it. Sometimes it's more annoying.
Lady Boo: Mi like di riddim still and even though mi caan hear di message. mi like the title which implies it's a good message him a try send. Mi realise if I could only hear it better, mi positive this woulda be a positive song. like him flow nuh bad, is just dat mi can't hear it.
Witch: Yeah the message is a good one, the betta mus come idea and he does sound kinda sad which goes well with the subject matter. The production is on par, I'm just not fond of the intro.
Queen: I love the riddim, I love the message, it's something that has a 'we are the world, we are the future' kinda thing to it. A mean it has the potential to be very popular and because it's clean, it will get a lot of airplay.
Witch: Buss or not?
Queen: As much as him need to work on his clarity, mi think it a go buss.
Lady Boo: I can't hear it but maybe somebody else will. A one cool yute and di song isn't totally bad and someone might hear wha him seh. people like him so it just might buss.
Witch: For real, the message is one of the major strengths of the song. In these times with all the stuff on radio, it will hopefully get nuff airplay. This is a buss for me on radio and in the streets.
